About the course

Develop practical cybersecurity skills across offensive and defensive security through a series of self-paced, hands-on labs introducing the roles, tools, and techniques used by red teams and blue teams.

The course begins with foundational networking concepts, including IP addressing, protocols, ports, and server operating systems, before introducing Kali Linux, Wireshark, and essential network security tools.

Learners will explore red team techniques such as network scanning with Nmap, man-in-the-middle attacks, Metasploit, credential harvesting, denial-of-service concepts, Telnet vulnerabilities, SMB exploitation, password attacks, and Windows exploitation techniques.

Complementing these activities, blue team labs cover network monitoring, firewall configuration, malware and antivirus protection, patch management, server security policies, and defensive measures for protecting systems and networks.

The course also introduces cyber ranges, providing insight into controlled environments for practising attack and defence scenarios, analysing security weaknesses, and developing incident detection and response skills.

By completing the labs, learners will gain a practical understanding of offensive security techniques and defensive countermeasures, developing foundational skills in network security, vulnerability assessment, threat detection, system hardening, and security monitoring.

All attack techniques are intended for authorised, controlled lab environments, providing a strong foundation for further study in penetration testing, security operations, and cyber defence.
