About the course

Develop practical penetration testing and vulnerability assessment skills through a comprehensive series of self-paced, hands-on labs.

The course explores how common web application vulnerabilities arise, how they can be identified through authorised security testing, and how appropriate defensive controls can be applied to reduce risk.

Learners will gain practical experience provisioning web servers, MySQL databases, and PHP environments before examining authentication and common web application vulnerabilities, including SQL injection (SQLi), HTML injection (HTMLi), cross-site scripting (XSS), session and cookie weaknesses, and command injection.

The labs also explore vulnerability discovery, exploitation techniques, URL encoding, and mitigation strategies within controlled environments.

The course progresses into network security controls, covering stateless and stateful firewalls, intrusion detection and prevention systems (IDS/IPS), SYSLOG, NTP, signature detection, alerting, and remote-shell concepts.

Learners will examine how security monitoring and defensive technologies can detect suspicious activity and support incident response.

By completing the labs, learners will develop a practical understanding of penetration testing methodologies, web application vulnerabilities, security controls, detection mechanisms, and incident response.

The course provides a strong foundation for further study in penetration testing, application security, vulnerability assessment, and cybersecurity, with all offensive techniques intended for authorised and controlled lab environments.
