About the course

Develop foundational Linux administration skills through a series of self-paced, hands-on labs covering Linux installation, system configuration, command-line operations, file management, and essential system maintenance.

The course introduces learners to CentOS Server and Ubuntu Desktop Linux, providing practical experience in installing Linux environments, managing software packages and shared libraries, identifying hardware, and working with storage devices and partitions.

Learners will explore essential system administration tasks, including creating new partitions, managing filesystem quotas, and booting and restarting Linux systems.

A series of practical exercises focuses on using the BASH shell, progressively developing command-line skills for navigating the operating system, executing commands, managing files, and performing routine administrative operations.

Additional labs cover process monitoring and text file management, helping learners understand how to inspect running processes, organise data, and manipulate text-based information using Linux tools.

The labs connect Linux concepts with practical system operations, building confidence in command-line interaction, software management, storage administration, and routine troubleshooting.

Learners will also develop an understanding of how Linux systems organise files and directories, manage system resources, and support day-to-day server administration tasks.

By completing the labs, learners will gain foundational skills in Linux installation, package management, hardware identification, partitioning, filesystem quotas, system startup and shutdown, BASH shell commands, process monitoring, file operations, and text file manipulation.

The course provides a practical starting point for further study in Linux server administration, systems engineering, and IT infrastructure management.
