About the course

Develop practical cybersecurity skills through a series of self-paced, hands-on labs exploring ethical hacking techniques, system vulnerabilities, network security, and defensive strategies.

The course introduces reconnaissance from wide area networks (WANs), local network scanning, host enumeration using Wireshark and Windows and Linux commands, and remote and local exploitation techniques.

Learners will explore a range of offensive security scenarios, including malware concepts and remote access trojans (RATs), network traffic capture and analysis, social engineering using the Social-Engineer Toolkit (SET), denial-of-service attacks, browser exploitation, web server attacks, vulnerable web application exploitation, wireless security weaknesses involving WEP and WPA, and SQL injection.

Additional activities examine firewall security, data transfer over encrypted channels, and the use of public key encryption to protect sensitive communications.

The labs provide opportunities to understand how attackers identify and exploit weaknesses, how network and system vulnerabilities can affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability, and how security controls can help reduce exposure.

Practical exercises connect offensive techniques with defensive considerations, supporting a broader understanding of security assessment and risk mitigation.

By completing the labs, learners will develop foundational skills in reconnaissance, network analysis, vulnerability identification, web and wireless security, exploitation awareness, encryption, and systems defense.

The course provides a practical foundation for further study in ethical hacking, penetration testing, and cybersecurity operations. All offensive techniques should be practised only in authorised, controlled lab environments.
